world famous san diego zoo, cabrillo monument & not mexico!!

friday, november 6, 2009

ron & kathy took today off and we all IMG_3433went to the san diego zoo.  we took the bus tour that goes  around the whole zoo, so we could see everything, then were able to get on another bus and get off at the exhibits we wanted to see!  it was awesome!  the day started out a little cloudy, but the sun came out and the zoo wasnt very crowded, which was nice, yep.  san diego has a lot to be proud of with their zoo.  they are renovating their exhibits to bring species that cohabitate well together in the same areas so it is more natural for them.  this was a special treat!  many many thanks to the cousins!

we then went out to see cabrillo monument.  senor cabrillo was the first european to see the west coast of the country way back when.  cabrillo monument sits way out on a point with such spectacular views of the whole san diego bay area, and you can even see mexico! but we didnt go to mexico, honest.

this is mexico! as seen from the u.s. (i swear!)

ron & kathy treated us to really really good authentic mexican food in old town IMG_3750 san diego.  old town was so much fun!! it was almost like being IN mexico (without going to mexico). julia spied an our lady of guatalupe madonna for the dashboard – we’ve been looking for one the whole trip! she is now sitting on the dash of the vibe with the happy buddah & ganesh, protecting us on our way.  life is so good!

what a full fun day!  julia went to bed as soon as we got home and fell fast asleep. ron & i sat up and talked more family stories and he burned a cd of some family pictures with some really fun & great ones of my mom when she was younger.  i thank you, ron, from the bottom of my heart for those.
