khiem & my cousin ron

we made it to marina del rey by lunch time to see my old friend, khiem.  we used to work together 5 or 6 years ago.  it was SO great to see him!!! we had a nice visit and some lunch, catching up and giggling the whole time.

a quick stop in long beach for souvenirs, then south to san diego.  along the way, we stopped and watch helicopters carry cargo to a air craft carrier offshore at camp pendleton:

we got to san diego round dark.  i’d never met my cousin ron before, and i gotta tell ya, i am SO happy that i did.  what a cool guy!  he and his wife, kathy were incredably warm and welcoming.  they have invited us to stay tonight and tomorrow night.  we all had a really nice supper kathy cooked on the grill and sat around talking about family history and looking at pictures. ron is really knowledgeable about the family history.  he has traced us back to new england, and even went to england to do some investigating.  i wish he would write a book (hint hint) :o)

julia and i snuggled in for the night, with excited anticipation of the san diego zoo tomorrow!!
