last night we stayed at the circle w rv park. very nice, with hot showers! this morning we went to hawthorn memorial gardens. no one was at the office, but there was one couple just leaving, so i asked them if they knew if the graves were in any order, by date, or anything. he said the only thing he knew was that the veterans were over there, as he pointed over there.
so, in the light oregon rain, julia & i walked 3/4 of the cemetary (imagine a clock, and starting at 12, then walking counter-clockwise…i found them at 2:00). i didnt realize that grandpa finn was indeed a veteran, cpt us army, ww1. so there they are, in the veterans section, side by side. despite the rain and the 2 hours of searching, it was a good day. i tidied up their grave markers, said some prayers, let them know that i would let everyone know they were there and not forgotten.
then, i decided i needed to see a dr, as the tick bite i got in minnesota had developed a large red ring around it, and i kept getting booboos on my legs, since before we left pennsylvania. the dr at the emergency room gave me two antibiotics, one for the tick bite, and the other for folliculitis, which is what the red booboos on my legs are. im not sure if the tick bite involves lyme’s disease, and the dr did not say specifically, but he said the antibiotic would take care of it, if it is. i guess i will talk with erin (the best nurse practitioner ever) about it when i get back home.
all the running around in the rain today has us bushed, so tonight we sleep in the evil walmart parking lot with a bunch of other free camper-types, and tomorrow we head south and west to crescent city, california, via the redwood parkway! yay
oh, and…i talked with my cousin ron white today. this is especially significant because we have never met. i have never met any cousins on my mom’s side, actually. ron is the family historian and i had called and left him a message yesterday. we talked a bit, and he lives in the san diego area, and has invited us to come and visit and promises to share the loads of family genealogy he has researched – back to the 1100’s, i think!! we will give him a call when we get close to his place and he will give us directions. also, he will email me the location of my grandpa max mckeehan white’s grave in los angeles, and my great grand parents in san gabriel (i think). we will stop there on our way to san diego, prolly later in the week, or next week.
now that we are on the left coast, as doc puts it, we intend to slow down a bit and travel a bit less each day.
it’s 6:30 here, in grants pass, the clouds have cleared, and the sunset through the last remaining clouds, over the mountains is heavenly.
(ps: thanks holiday inn express for the free wifi!)
