on sunday after leaving willie’s we drove north and west through the black hills. some serious pretty countryside!
we drove through the custer state park:
we drove the wildlife loop and checked out all the wild life…. but be careful because:
(it was SO windy there!)
and these burros! they just come right to your car and stick their noses in, if your window is open enough!! it was kinda frightening.
on the way outta the black hills, we stopped at ken’s (!!) minerals in custer, sd. just a rock shop, there are lots there in south dakota, but some pretty rocks and fossils, jackalopes (!!), and it was ken’s!
leaving custer, we passed this place, and i had to take a picture for the best boyfriend, ever:
rounding out the day was a long distance view of the crazy horse memorial:
and a drive through:
then to deadwood, sd, a really cool old west town:
and a visit to mt. moriah cemetary, where wild bill hickcock and others are buried:
after leaving deadwood, we headed west on interstate 90, into wyoming!!
and then the sun set on another day…
by the way…here are some other random and interesting places we visited in south dakota :
the corn palace in mitchell, sd. the world’s ONLY corn palace, by the way. the exterior of the building is covered in murals make completely out of corn and other crops. how could we not stop?
i made julia pose for this picture and told her that some day she would be on a roadtrip with her daughter and want to take corney (get it?) pictures of her, and she could tell her that her mom made her do it. heehee
and never pass through south dakota without a stop at al’s oasis. it’s tradition, and coffee is only 5 cents (unless you get it to go, then it’s like 95 cents. but it was getting dark that night and cold, and why not?
